2025 Roadmap
In 2025, NFDHH is preparing for an impactful year of growth, with a clear roadmap focused on key areas that will drive real change in the lives of those affected by hearing loss. Learn more about NFDHH's goals for the year ahead.
Raise Awareness of Global Hearing Loss and the Call for "Hearing Care for All"
NFDHH, along with its partner organisations, will continue advocating for government support for a robust Public Health Programme to address the increasing levels of hearing loss and ensure equitable hearing care for all New Zealanders.
We urge everyone to read the World Health Organization's World Report on Hearing to understand the global call for action to prioritize hearing health.
Assist New Zealanders in Need of Hearing Aids Through the Hearing Aid Fund
With the help of our donors and partners, we aim to award 50 grants in 2025 through our Hearing Aid Fund. These $500 grants will help bridge the financial gap for those needing hearing aids, enabling them to access the essential support they require.
Combat Youth Hearing Loss by Promoting Safe Listening Practices
NFDHH is dedicated to educating young New Zealanders on the importance of protecting their hearing. Our Make Listening Safe program focuses on raising awareness about safe noise levels, especially concerning digital media and music. In 2025, we plan to expand this programme's reach by leveraging digital and social media to educate more young people and their families about hearing protection.
Advocate for a more inclusive society that recognises the challenges that affect Deaf and hard of hearing New Zealanders
We will continue our advocacy efforts to ensure universal access to services, technology, and support for Deaf and hard of hearing New Zealanders. Our goal is to enhance awareness of Deaf and hard of hearing experiences and drive significant change in hearing health care. In 2025, we, alongside our member organizations and industry partners, will work on advancing a Public Health Programme aimed at improving hearing health outcomes nationwide.
Expand the Hearing Screening Programme in Schools to Promote Early Detection and Intervention
We aim to increase our Hearing Screening Programme's reach to 85 secondary schools across New Zealand. These screening's are crucial for early diagnosis and intervention, helping to address rising youth hearing loss rates. The data collected will be used to advocate for a national adolescent hearing screening programme a part of the Public Health Programme.
Transform Workplaces to Support Deaf and Hard of Hearing Employees
NFDHH will continue to promote hearing loss awareness in workplaces by expanding our Hearing Accredited Workplace Programme. We plan to double the number of educational workshops and hearing screenings provided to businesses, building on the 40 workshops delivered in 2024.
Support Learning New Zealand Sign Language and Deaf Culture
We aim to offer NZSL and Deaf Culture workshops to help Deaf and hard of hearing New Zealanders and those interested in learning more about the language. These workshops provide a valuable first step in connecting with teh Deaf community.
Foster Community and Connection Among Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals
Our focus is to grow our vibrant online community, where Deaf and hard of hearing Kiwis can connect, share experiences, and find support. We will use social media to extend our reach and provide engaging content that raises awareness, inspires, and educates our community.
Commitment to Our ESG Framework
We will continue to align our efforts with our ESG framework, focusing on:
Environmental Sustainability: Reducing our carbon footprint through efficient practices and sustainable operations.
Social Responsibility: Enhancing community engagement, promoting inclusivity, and advocating for equitable access to hearing health services.
Governance: Promoting transparency, accountability, and consistency across our initiatives.
Through these initiatives, we aim to make a significant impact in 2025, and we invite you to join us. Whether by volunteering, donating, or simply helping us spread the word, your support is crucial in driving these efforts forward. Let's work together to create a future where hearing care is accessible for all.
